Gigabit Internet To Take Over Major China Cities In Just Five Years

If you thought gigabit internet was taking America by storm, you may find that it’s becoming even more popular in the East. China plans to have the incredibly-fast connection installed in most of its major cities just five years from now. It’s all a part of the country’s efforts to stay in line with its new broadband strategy, which was just announced over the weekend. China plans to bring broadband internet to as many households as possible. But in order to do that, its existing speeds will need to increase to 50 Mbps in the city, and 12 Mbps in rural households.

This objective may pose a challenge, as the country’s rural households currently only reach 1.7 Mbps. But ironically, China has the largest online population; almost six hundred million people are online in the country. With demand for higher speeds constantly rising, the country wishes to meet it by bringing 3 and 4G connections to its mobile population in addition to delivering broadband to 400 million residences in just five years from now. As well, China has plans for the further development of its IT industry, which will be fueled by the launch of a stimulus program.

Could The Best Internet Providers In My Area Soon Be Encrypting Emails Automatically?

In response to reports of NSA spying into international communications, at least one country is deciding that this won’t happen to them. Two of Germany’s most popular internet providers made the announcement late last week that they will soon begin to automatically encrypt any and all of their customers’ emails by default. The encryption will extend to two-thirds of the country’s primary email addresses, with messages being secure between GMX and Web.De and T-Online customers. However, critics who have weighed in on the announcement say that this move is a publicity stunt, and little more.

The increased security appears to be a positive thing for German citizens, but critics say that the technology being used to encrypt messages is not current, and offered no guarantee that messages would be safe from surveillance on company servers. This is because what were referred to as ‘listening posts’ would still be able to be established on the system of the best internet provider in my area, according to Germany’s largest hacker association. Although one spokesperson said that access to information to foreign intelligences isn’t granted by Deutsche Telekom, they did say that they are still bound by the country’s laws, which grants security services the ability to intercept communications.

Pressure From FBI Could See Surveillance Software Installed By Wireless Internet Providers

Reports are coming through that the FBI has developed specialized ‘port reader’ software and may be pressuring some ISPs to install it in their networks, albeit very quietly. The software intercepts internet metadata in real time, and would allow the FBI to intercept communications from anyone, and without being subject to warrants or other judicial review. The reason for this is because electronic communication does not currently fall under the statute of limitations, as the statute has yet to be updated to reflect the digital age. As such, judicial bodies have little to no ability to deny the types of requests for information via software such as the FBI has indicated it wishes ISPs to install.

However, it’s being reported that some data may not be accessible legally with the software. This means that the FBI may only be able to get information related to addressing, routing, signaling or dialing without the need to obtain wiretap permission. But there is much in the way of speculation and questions about just what kind of information landline and wireless internet providers would really be storing with the software. This is because information about all the software could do may not be revealed by the FBI.

Winning Fight Against Terrorism Mean Spying On Citizens Via Internet Service Providers: NSA

The numbers are in, and they are impressive: Since the NSA has implemented its intelligence-gathering programs, 54 terrorist attacks have been prevented around the globe, thirteen of them in the United States. The news was revealed at the Back Hat computer security conference being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. The widely-controversial programs were heavily defended by NSA director Keith Alexander. Alexander provided details about NSA’s programs, which he said were capable of collecting data from phone calls, but not call content or text messages.

The other program, PRISM, was also discussed. The program, which gets email, instant messaging and web search information from internet service providers in my area does not focus on American citizens, according to Alexander. Instead, it applies to potential terrorists operating from foreign countries. In addition to answering pre-screened questions, Alexander also posted an email address so that anyone in the audience could get in touch with NSA employees with their ideas. Although there was some heckling during his address, Alexander provided much information with regard to current NSA programs and the laws by which the NSA is governed when running them. However, there’s no telling whether or not his address could be considered to be a successful one.

Will Television Go Extinct Thanks To Digital Media?

According to some sources, digital viewing of media will outpace traditional television viewing. This may be due to the fact that many of us now choose to view media on our mobile devices. Estimated statistics have revealed that the average adult in the United States will spend just over five hours per day viewing content on digital media, versus spending four and a half hours viewing programming on traditional television. This is apparently the second report to be released this week which indicates the turning of the tide to digital media.

However, these numbers don’t mean that viewers will be abandoning traditional television. While some companies may have been waiting for a migration to the cord cutting side of content, it may be awhile yet before a mass exodus occurs; despite a dramatic increase in the consumption of digital media via mobile devices, this activity only accounted for about five percent of all citizens in the country. However, the consumption of digital media has continued to increase each year. And what about companies like Netflix? Although this type of media consumption may appear to be wildly popular, it was actually revealed that there were as many households subscribing to Netflix as those who were not.

Will Cable Internet Service Providers In My Area Soon Consolidate?

An interview with John Malone, a former giant of the cable industry, revealed some interesting predictions. Malone opined that by going the way of the wireless industry as far as pricing and packages are concerned, the cable industry could not only itself evolve, but realize much revenue as a result. Malone said that he could see the cable industry eventually offering tiered pricing on its packages that was based on the consumption of data. If this structure seems familiar, it is the same structure currently being employed by mobile data companies with their plans.

This was apparently just one of many pieces of key information delivered in the interview. This has caused many experts to wonder whether or not consolidation among cable internet service providers in my area is coming, and whether or not Malone may be behind it. After all, the one-time cable giant did recently purchase a 27% share in Charter Communications. Whether or not a cable consolidation will work remains to be seen, as it has been difficult to get customers on board with usage-based pricing where wireline broadband is concerned. Many hope that several delays due to past criticism will not affect this most current effort to bring this idea forth.

Speed Increase Coming From One Popular Internet Service?

The rumor mill is turning: apparently, one big name provider is planning on increasing both its download and upload streams this summer. An unnamed source has revealed that the company is currently testing a modem/gateway that contains new, bonded technology and will therefore provide the faster speeds. Although the new speeds have been reported at 60 Mbps for downloads and 10Mbps for uploads, the source of the rumor did not confirm this. However, the new speeds are currently being tested in a number of markets, and that the aforementioned speeds are accurate.

In addition to the higher speed addition, a person claiming to be a technician for the internet company said on a community forum that IPTV streams for customers of the company would also be improving in the form of increased IPTV streams. The improvements come as the internet service competes with cable ISPs who are currently able to match its copper/fiber hybrid lines. Although the 60 Mbps download speeds are impressive, an executive within the company has said that ninety percent of the company’s customers can expect to be able to download at speeds reaching 75 Mbps. The company is currently working on increasing its reach to customers, aiming for 57 million advanced IP wireline network customers just two years from now.

Even The Best internet Provider Can’t Protect Customers From Webmail Spying

Those who tend to use webmail may praise it for its convenience; after all, webmail can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection, allowing us to do business or answer personal email from virtually anywhere in the world that we may be. But webmail has become the most recent topic in the recent news about government spying. How secure is it, and how worried should we be that our webmail messages are being monitored? The truth is that while encryption of email messages is present, it isn’t nearly as secure as it could be.

Popular web mail companies did enable the encryption of messages, but only for messages traveling between a user’s computer and the webmail service. But it’s the transfer of messages between servers of different companies that remain unencrypted, for example, an email sent from a Yahoo user to someone at Gmail over a best internet provider connection. So why hasn’t encryption been turned on by these companies? According to experts, it’s incredibly easy to enable. Apparently, the reason is because there are no incentives for companies to do so. Currently, experts say that only one company has demonstrated that it both understands and cares about email encryption.

A new report has been added to the current offering of Research and Markets, who offer international market research reports and market data: wireless local area networks. The reason: wireless is becoming increasingly popular with users, a large percentage of whom now user their wireless devices to access the internet. The report takes a closer look at wireless applications, technology and standards, as well as all of the factors contributing to the success of this form of internet. The author of the report made a stunning prediction: that the shipments of wireless technology will grow from 1.4 billion last year to 3.6 billion in 2016.

In addition to this information regarding the growth in the shipments of wireless technology, other points were also touched upon. These include the fact that the 802.11standard has greatly expanded in breadth due to its backwards compatibility. As well, it was reported that Those who created the standard understand that the solution to ensuring stability as far as market share is concerned is in taking a generalists’ approach. This has also allowed wireless internet and the standard to expand its functionality. Decisions made in years past by the WiFi Alliance and IEEE standards committees have resulted in many benefits able to be reaped today.

Google Glass Pressured By Privacy Officials

Seven countries are asking Google to address a number of concerns with regard to the privacy of its latest product, Google Glass in the form of a letter from ten data protection and government privacy officials. The letter was sent to Google’s chief executive Larry Page, and follows one sent by eight members of Congress last month which asked similar questions about the privacy of the product. Mainly, the questions asked were in regard to the privacy implications which may accompany Google Glass.

Although not yet available to consumers, Google Glass is raising much controversy, as it features the ability for users to record video, send text messages, make phone calls and use new and social networking apps hands-free. As well, notifications from several organizations can be sent to a screen which is located just above the right eye of the user. The main issue raised by the letters is what the company plans to do with the user data that it collects via the wearable device, with the main concern being that the surveillance of users by the company may be possible. Although the company responded to the concerns by saying that facial recognition would not be a feature, and that data wiping by the user would be available, privacy commissioners did demand a demo of the product.

Are Internet Service Providers As Slow As We Think?

Many people are of the opinion that internet as a whole is slower in America than the rest of the world. But there are many facts which say otherwise. So what is the real issue? According to some, it is low numbers of people subscribing to internet service. The reason there are so few new subscribers is most likely due to a lack of understanding about how important the internet is to our daily lives. These days, the internet can be used to find jobs, look up health information, resolve virtually any issue under the sun, and just about anything else.

Without an education about all of the ways the internet can be of benefit, there is very little value placed on it. Of course, there are initiatives in place which involve free courses and information about the internet being given to communities. Whether this will be enough to boost subscribership with internet service providers remains to be seen. But some feel that everyone can do their part by taking a few minutes to explain some of the aspects of the internet to friends or anyone in their family who may not know a lot about the internet.

Federal Agencies Order Wireless Internet Providers To Get Efficient With Spectrum

Easier sharing of spectrum would be possible if federal agencies used it more efficiently. This was the message from the Obama administration, who released a memorandum late last week ordering federal agencies to make better use of the spectrum they control. This latest release is the most current effort by the government to try and get federal agencies and commercial carriers to share their spectrum. As well, more use of spectrum commercially is another goal, which a $100 million pledge from The White House to research and development hopes to advance.

Last year, the President’s Council of Advisors on Policy and Technology attempted to get the Secretary of Commerce to find 1000MHz of spectrum that could not only be used for new wireless customers, but for the first shared-use spectrum effort as well. A more aggressive approach is being suggested now, what with more customers getting online via wireless internet providers than ever. And the suggested approach is quickly taking shape with a team devoted to the issue that includes officials from the administration. Within one year is the goal for a report regarding how the objective of freeing spectrum and encouraging sharing is progressing. Recommendations regarding additional approaches will be made to the President at the six-month mark.

Can Encrypted Email Via Internet Service Companies Protect Against NSA Spying?

Email continues to be a staple method of sending all manner of information from the everyday to the sensitive. But since the news broke about the NSA’s spying activity, many are wondering what they can do to protect their email messages from being read. One solution is in public key encryption, which encrypts email itself. Using asymmetric cryptography is the most secure method, whereby two ‘keys’ are needed in order to encrypt or decrypt a message.

But although it does provide a very secure way to receive and open emails – neither can be done without both keys – this type of encryption isn’t perfect. Just because you send an encrypted message to someone user your connection to internet service providers, doesn’t necessarily mean that they will encrypt their reply. In order for this to work properly, both the mail you send to contacts and the mail they send to you must be encrypted. And you both must be willing to do so. As well, encrypting your email doesn’t mean that every message will be encrypted, as this type of security doesn’t cover metadata like the date of the message sent or subject lines.

Accessing Your Wireless Internet Service Away From Home

When on the go, you may use a Wi-Fi connection to get online. But most times, public Wi-Fi connections aren’t secure. This could mean that the device you use to get online is left wide open to hackers and anyone else wanting to use your connection for other exploits. And so using your laptop or other device at an airport or bus station could mean that hundreds of people can look virtually over your shoulder and get hold of your sensitive information. And this can happen even if your internet company is a well-known and historically reliable one.

The best way to protect yourself from threats to your wireless connection is to check and re-check the integrity of the Wi-Fi network you are connecting to. This is because many hackers will create legitimate-looking networks so that unsuspecting users will choose and then log onto them. Once logged in with your wireless internet service, anything you do online can be monitored, including any online banking activity. Hackers can use keyloggers which can easily obtain banking account numbers and passwords. Most experts warn to refrain from these sensitive activities when using public Wi-Fi. If possible, wait until you can access your home’s wireless network.

Have A Virus? Ignoring It Could Be Hazardous To Your Computer’s Health

With all of the technology available to computer users today to protect themselves from online threats like viruses, it can be easy to think that the programs we install will just automatically take care of everything. But this may not always be the case. Many viruses that are in the wild today have made themselves undetectable by anti-virus programs. They do this by appearing in scans as harmless system files.  Other kinds of viruses may insert themselves onto your system via adware or malware, which can often accompany downloads. It may seem easier to just ignore these facts and assume your antivirus program will protect you. But what are you risking by doing this?

By letting viruses continue to live on your system, you are only increasing the time it will take to get rid of them once they start to interfere with the normal usage of your computer. Depending on the type of virus that is infecting your system, you may even incur additional charges from your ISP due to the usage of bandwidth coming from your IP address. You are also risking the computer safety of anyone else who is listed as a contact on your computer if the virus you have replicates itself by emailing your contact list.

Saving With The Best Internet Provider In My Area

Mind-boggling. That’s a good term to describe just how many ISPs you may have to compare when it’s time to switch providers. This can mean hours spent checking out prices, features and bandwidth limits until you feel as though your head is spinning. But do you really need to switch companies? Perhaps this is the first question that should be asked. Can your ISP offer you another package that can provide you with the speed you need at the price you want? If so, then you need only look at one provider. Of course, if you’ve received poor service from your company, there is no reason for you to stay.

Looking for another company can mean visiting many sites before you find one that offers correct and accurate information about the companies available to connect you in your city. And before you go and try to gather information from several sites on your own, you should be aware that there are many sites that offer a convenient service: they’ve already gathered necessary ISP information for you. Many of them will only require you to enter your zip code to view the best internet provider in my area which takes much less time than doing all of the work yourself.

Indoor Navigation Possible With Wireless Internet Providers?

Large-scale motion capture. The navigation of groups in buildings. While these may sound like the ingredients of a futuristic movie, experts claim that the future is now, at least in France. That country is the location of Cormoran, a project that aims to use wireless body area networks, or WBANs for the aforementioned activities. These networks would require sensors or devices to be worn in order to obtain the location of individuals so that capture and navigation on larger scales could be possible.

The French National Research Agency is funding the Cormoran project, which has many other research endeavors under way, such as new mechanisms which would allow the wearable sensors to work more efficiently as they interact with other networks which are similar. As well, low power and data rate wireless internet providers technologies are being researched which include Bluetooth low-energy.

Most Schools Will Have High Speed From Internet Service Providers In My Area By 2018: Obama

Internet-based education will be the norm in most schools across the United States just five years from now, according to a Thursday presentation made to students at a North Carolina middle school. During the presentation, the President said that the Federal Communications Commission should be expanding existing programs that provide discounted high speed internet to libraries and schools. He also stated that doing so could translate into better technology in 99% of schools.

The President promised the auditorium full of teenagers that efforts will begin immediately, as none of the initiative requires approval from Congress. The speeds that most schools may expect to access would reach up to 1GB per second, with the institutions being able to pay for their wireless networks in campuses and buildings with the redirection of federal money. The mentioned program, called E-rate provides community institutions with low-cost internet. It assesses fees on phone companies that is normally passed on to the consumer. In this scenario however, the roughly 15% tax on phone bills’ long-distance portion would instead be assessed at few dollars for home internet and mobile phone combined. It’s also expected that not only internet service providers in my area will offer their products. Electronic textbooks and devices are also expected to be offered.
