The estimates also include information from ComScore, a Colorado-based market research firm. Online shoppers have already spent about $9 billion during the first three weeks of November — 14% higher than the same three week period last year. ComScore, in a survey of more than one thousand consumers, found that more than one-third are locating more sales and better discounts than they did in 2010. Half of those surveyed said they specifically look for free shipping while shopping online. A few retailers have already launched their special online sales, including The Gap and Newegg. Most of the big retailers, including Best Buy and Walmart, will begin offering Black Friday deals to their online customers on November 25.

]]> http://www.high-speed-internet-service-providers.com/blog/qwestinternet/feed/ 0 Since Qwest Internet & CenturyLink Merger, New Company Working Hard to Promote DSL http://www.high-speed-internet-service-providers.com/blog/qwest-internet-dsl/ http://www.high-speed-internet-service-providers.com/blog/qwest-internet-dsl/#comments Fri, 14 Oct 2011 15:32:49 +0000 BobB http://www.high-speed-internet-service-providers.com/blog/?p=731 According to a report posted earlier this week on Daily Finance, an AOL money and finance site, when CenturyLink merged with Qwest Internet in April, there was an immediate drop in broadband subscribers.  According to CenturyLink‘s CFO, Stewart Ewing, the drop was related to a number of special-priced promotional packages Qwest had offered its DSL users.  Today CenturyLink is actively going after broadband-only customers at the end of promotional cycles by offering additional product bundles.  Included among the products being offered is wireless service — utilizing their new relationship with Verizon.  Also being offered, in those markets where it is available, is Prism IPTV.  It’s interesting to note that CenturyLink‘s new RBOC partners, Verizon  and AT&T, have both seen gains in both broadband and video — a trend that will no doubt be reported in their earnings reports which are due out later this month for both companies.

The arena is home to the Idaho Steelheads, members of the premier ‘AA’ minor hockey league-the ECHL.  The announcement was recently made at a luncheon in downtown Boise.  Century Link merged with Qwest Communications, including Qwest Internet, in April of this year with Century Link emerging as the name of the new company.  The arena seats 5,000 fans and has about 40 luxury boxes plus a bar and restaurant which have a commanding view of center ice.

Jim Schmit, Vice President and General Manager for the State of Idaho, said that “Century Link understands the significance of the arena to the good folks of Boise and the entire State of Idaho.  For us we feel that this is much more than simply changing a name on the outside of a building.” Since the merger, Century Link has also renamed the stadium in Seattle that is the home of the NFL Seattle Seahawks to CenturyLink Field.

The report, dated July 12, 2011, stated that Louisiana based CenturyLink has merged with Qwest after receiving the necessary approval from the Utah Public Service Commission. The name Qwest Internet will show up on your monthly statement even though daily business has been assumed by CenturyLink.  The merged entity now occupies the building that still holds the Qwest name.  According to an economist for the Public Service Commission, John Harvey, CenturyLink has promised to spend millions of dollars for upgrades within the state of Utah.

“In the long term, we expect to see higher capacity broadband. That’s our thing and both of these companies have been very interested in accomplishing that goal. The current plan is not just to improve service for their current customers but also develop better service for those who live in both unserved and underserved areas.”  The report went on to say that CenturyLink has committed to spend $25 million just within Utah.  There is no timeline as to when the Qwest name will be changed to CenturyLink.
