According to an article in the St George Daily Spectrum, Qwest customers in Southern Utah should begin gaining access to higher speeds on their Internet connection. The increased speed is a direct result of the takeover of Qwest Internet by CenturyLink, back in April of this year. CenturyLink is planning for a buildup of the infrastructure around Saint George and Cedar City. Fiber connections should start being installed, bringing Internet speeds up to 40 Mbps to areas as remote as Enoch and Hurricane. Also, the change should help create new jobs in the area. Jackie Lalor, spokeswoman for CenturLink, said they are “crazy busy.” She said there will be no decrease in the work force whatsoever. Demand is huge for the speed fiber optics provides.” Very soon customers will begin seeing the Qwest logos being replaced by CenturyLink at both retail locations and on their monthly bills.

It doesn’t matter where you live these days. The best Internet providers are available pretty much anywhere. So if you are looking to improve your Internet connection, you won’t have to look far. A quick web search should bring up plenty of choices — even better if you search by zip code. Whether it’s for business or pleasure, we all have need of the Internet daily and deserve fast service at a reasonable price. Whether it’s to print up some recipes for that upcoming family reunion, figure out how to replace your car’s brake pads, or explore the latest at Etsy, the Internet is a part of most people’s daily routine. No one should have to settle for second rate when the best Internet providers are available in most major cities.

ViaSat, a U.S. satellite communications company and owner of WildBlue Internet, said Thursday that the launch of its new $400 million broadband Internet satellite, ViaSat 1, is now scheduled to take place in mid-October. A company spokesman said that once ViaSat-1 reaches orbit, it will be an additional six weeks before the satellite begins providing high speed Internet service. At 150 gigabits per second in total capacity, ViaSat-1 will become the world’s highest capacity satellite. The spokesman said that the company fully expects it to deliver somewhere between 2 megabits per second and 10 megabits per second download speeds. He said the monthly service cost will be roughly the same as other current Internet services, which are much slower. WildBlue provides high-speed Internet service via satellite throughout the nation.

According to an article in yesterday’s edition of the Chicago Sun Times, there are thousands of school aged children in the Fox Valley and Aurora sections of the greater Chicago metropolitan area that are now able to gain high-speed access to the Internet for less than $10.00 per month. How can they get it for such an inexpensive rate? They can thank the Essentials program that is sponsored by Comcast. The program was designed for low-income families with students. The intention of the program is to eliminate the “digital divide” that separates the haves from the have-nots when it comes to Internet access.
According to the article, the program is available to all families with children who receive a free lunch through the National School Lunch program. The program is available in East Aurora and surrounding school districts. It is anticipated that nearly 70% of all students in the East Aurora school district will qualify. Clayton Muhammad, speaking for the District said: “We’re increasingly aware of the importance for all children to have access to the Internet and advancing technologies.” Comcast sponsors the program in many communities throughout the nation.

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that Ma Bell was an icon that personified big business. Normally the reference to Ma Bell was a reference to the Bell Telephone System, which subsequently became AT&T. This huge company became a monopoly that provided telephone service to the United States and Canada through the year 1984 when the U.S. Department of Justice broke it up into several different companies. Now, just 25 years later, the telecommunications business is no longer solely about telephone lines that carry calls into the homes of people and into the nations businesses. Now it is Internet service, along with wireless, mobile devices that these companies focus on. In fact, the separate phone companies that were created back in 1984 have evolved into the major Internet service providers in the nation today. Isn’t it amazing to see how things have changed in just 25 years!

The recession has made life difficult for many families. Things once considered necessary are today often viewed as luxuries. Sadly, for many families that has included Internet access. But the Valley Brook Board of Education, near Chicago in Illinois, has decided to do something about it. Last week, Tony Signorella, Government Affairs Manager for Comcast, one of the major Internet service providers in the area, met with members of the Board to talk about a program that will offer discounted Internet rates for families who cannot afford to bring the Internet into their homes. The program will provide Internet access for just $9.95 per month for those families who have children enrolled in the free school lunch program. It will also provide the families with a voucher to purchase a laptop computer.
On August 9, 2011, the Bolingbrook Patch, an online news letter, quoted Signorella as saying: “As far as we know, this is the biggest step forward to close the digital divide.” The program, called Internet Essentials will be offered to families during the school registration process. Board of Education President Steve Quigley agreed that the program will truly help students who use computers throughout the academic year, but find themselves without access to the web during the summer months. The article said that the towns of Romeoville and Bolingbrook will also be supporting the program. “In this day and age, we may think everyone has Internet access in their home but there are still those that do not,” Quigley said.

The expanding number of users on the internet has created a great deal of demand for professional internet service providers. Nowhere is this more true than on a college campus where students can now do online research for virtually all of their assignments, research papers and even in preparing a thesis for an advanced degree. And this certainly makes sense, since the internet is literally one big virtual library. When you figure that students are able to gain hundreds, or even thousands, of search results each time they search a new subject, it is no wonder they often prefer the internet to a trip to the campus library.
Simply by typing in specific keywords on the subject they are researching, college students today literally have access to the top libraries of the world. Medical students can tie directly into the Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins; art students can be connected to the great museums of the world and engineering students may study all of the great engineering designs from all over the world — right on line. Students today can sit back and use their computer to search virtually anything they want — all with the click of a mouse.

We’ve made a list of the top High Speed Internet Providers!!! Guess what they all have in common? They are all on our list of top Internet Service Providers making Online-Only Offers. What this means to you is that you can save BIG money. It can be just for upgrading your current plan. Other offers range in specials for sign-up to special speed requirements. That’s a whole other topic, but one worth mentioning. Going to this page will help you decide what service fits your lifestyle the best.
Companies like AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth are showing you their speed requirements for every package they promote. Should you need to up-grade your services, you’ll have a good selection of providers. One last thing before I go… check the availability for that particular service in your area. Some rural areas might be exempt from the package being promoted.
